Domaine Chaume Arnaud
A relatively large estate situated in the village of Vinsobres, the Chaume-Arnaud estate uses biodynamic growing techniques. The white blend stands head and shoulders above most other Southern Rhône whites, and their reds are fresh and fruity, with no oak used in their élevage. The results are wines with a purity and freshness that make them great drinking wines even at an early age. We were introduced to this domaine by Bruno Gaspard of Clos du Caillou; kudos to Bruno for highlighting such a promising grower.

The estate's flagship wine! The vines are planted on a stony plateau at 400m altitude, with a wonderful view of Mont Ventoux, with the cool temperatures making for gentle grape maturation. The resulting wine is a treasure of complexity and balance, offering flavours of cherries, blackberry, spice, as well as lovely minerality. 2014 was a cooler year so the wines are vibrant with relatively low alcohol levels. The harvest was quite late in the year so the long time spent on the vine allowed the grapes to reach full maturity giving the wines silky textures and soft tannins. Jancis Robinson was impressed by the wine, awarding it 16+ points out of 20 and writing “Very dark crimson. Rather sumptuous black fruits on the nose. Polished with some leathery notes too…Well done!”
50% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 15% Mourvèdre
