Carineña is an up-and-coming area located just to the south of Zaragoza in Aragon. Though it shares its name with the Spanish synonym of Carignan, more than just this single variety is grown there. The Mateo’s vineyards are planted with Garnacha, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Macabeo. The family used to sell their fruit on, but for the past ten years they have been making their own wine. Modern and fruit-driven, these wines represent exceptional value and are a great illustration of New Wave Spain.
