House of Trimbach Riesling, Clos Sainte Hune 2011

House of Trimbach Riesling, Clos Sainte Hune 2011

The House of Trimbach, arguably the greatest name in Alsace, started producing wine in 1626. It is still run today by the 12th generation of the family who maintain 100% control over everything - from planting to vinification, selection and bottling. Trimbach wines are elegant and reserved - they are pure and clean with a beautiful acidity, a lovely freshness and a profound minerality.

It is from the family's Clos Ste Hune vineyard, a small vineyard (about 1.67 hectares) just outside the village of Hunawihr, that arguably the most revered dry Riesling anywhere is produced. The vineyard is south, south-east facing with a predominantly limestone subsoil, with vines on average 50 years old. Production is extremely limited, with only 650 - 750 cases produced per year.

Trimbach Clos Ste Hune is widely regarded as one of the best expressions of Alsace Riesling, and also as one of the greatest white wines in the world. An exceptionally long-lived Riesling (it can age 20+ years) with few rivals - profound, thrilling and powerful - much sought after by Riesling lovers and collectors across the globe.

Yes, a sensational dry Riesling for the Cellar!

"Yet the more I think about it the more I realize what a no-brainer Clos Sainte Hune really is.  Not only is it one of the greatest dry Rieslings in the world, it’s one of the greatest white wines of the world…period."    Winex.com

 3x75cl  £355/case  In Bond

"The 2011 Riesling Clos Ste Hune (in the market now, and which Pierre Trimbach compares with the 1983) is super ripe, rich, intense and complex on the nose. On the palate, this is a rich and concentrated, powerful but elegant and balanced Sainte Hune that currently lacks a bit of tension and vitality. However, the tannins will take the 2011 through many years, even though there is an initial hint of maturity already. Some caramel flavors in the finish. Bottled with 13.9% alcohol plus 6.6 of residual sugar." Drink 2025-2047
