Bin End Top Picks

Bin End Top Picks

We are about halfway through our 2018 Winter Bin End Sale, and in the past few weeks we've had quite a few people asking us for recommendations, no doubt due to the wonderfully appealing prices on offer.

This email therefore focuses on wines which we have tried recently and loved. Many we have found to be at an ideal stage of maturity, more often than not in the middle of their drinking window. It goes without saying that they have all been heavily reduced and represent incredible value!

Also, don't forget - Our Bin End Tasting is tomorrow afternoon! Info below:

NV Crémant du Jura Blanc, Benoît Mulin
WAS £16.80 NOW £13.20
per 75cl bottle, inc. duty/VAT

This sparkling Crémant is superb, made from 50-50 Pinot Noir/Chardonnay, using the Champagne method and aged on its lees for 15 months to add complexity before being bottled. Great quality for the money!

2016 Sauvignon Blanc, Ventopuro
WAS £9.90 NOW £6.60
per 75cl bottle, inc. duty/VAT

Refreshing dry Chilean white with mouthfilling citrus notes and a touch of spiciness. A crisp but not overpowering acidity adds to the wine’s attractiveness.

2016 Riesling, Vereinigte Hospitien
WAS £11.10 NOW £7.80
per 75cl bottle, inc. duty/VAT

Fresh apple and apricot flavours, well integrated acidity and minerality. Soft and appealing with honeysuckle and sweet lemon hints. A perfect German Riesling from the Mosel!

2016 Pecorino, Villamedoro
WAS £11.90 NOW £9.90
per 75cl bottle, inc. duty/VAT

Light and fresh, this Pecorino went through a process of cold skin fermentation which really brings out the charming aromas of pear, acacia and jasmine. Bright yellow in colour this has a lovely crisp mineral flavour that is perfect for spring-time drinking.

2014 Dolcetto d'Alba 'Savincato' Tenuta L'Illuminata
WAS £11.90 NOW £9.90
per 75cl bottle, inc. duty/VAT

This wine has a very vibrant deep ruby color and quite a lively fruity bouquet. Notes from red- and blackberries, cassis, pomegranate and cranberry dominate the nose, whereas the palate is well balanced with a long finish. You may even be able to identify an almondy flavour on the finish, which is particular to the Dolcetto d'Alba. The name derives from Savincati, which was a Celtic tribe, who lived in the Piedmont area in the first century BC.

2014 Vinsobres, Chaume Arnaud
WAS £15.30 NOW £12.00
per 75cl bottle, inc. duty/VAT
WAS £35.00 NOW £27.90
per 150 cl bottle, inc. duty/VAT

The estate's flagship wine! The vines are planted on a stony plateau at 400m altitude, with a wonderful view of Mont Ventoux, with the cool temperatures making for gentle grape maturation. The resulting wine is a treasure of complexity and balance, offering flavours of cherries, blackberry, spice, as well as lovely minerality. 2014 was a cooler year so the wines are vibrant with relatively low alcohol levels. The harvest was quite late in the year so the long time spent on the vine allowed the grapes to reach full maturity giving the wines silky textures and soft tannins. Jancis Robinson was impressed by the wine, awarding it 16+ points out of 20 and writing “Very dark crimson. Rather sumptuous black fruits on the nose. Polished with some leathery notes too…Well done!”

2014 Châteauneuf-du-Pape ‘Les Safres’, Clos du Caillou
WAS £31.50 NOW £24.90
per 75cl bottle, inc. duty/VAT

“The Grenache-dominated 2014 Châteauneuf du Pape Les Safres (there’s 5% of Mourvèdre,Vaccarèse and Cinsault) is a sweetly fruited, layered, medium-bodied beauty that has sweet, sweet tannin (which isn’t a given in the vintage), lots of straw- berry and blackberry fruit, plenty of Provençal spice, and a beautiful nish. Again, it won’t be the longest-lived effort out there, but man, does it do well in the vintage.” 91 points, Jeb Dunnock,

Kind regards,
