We are delighted to announce we will be returning to Bloomsbury House on the 20th November to showcase a range of 2016s from the Northern and Southern Rhône.
“Moving on to the 2016 reds, it appears that the early hype is justified. These are wines that combine immense power (and sometimes alcohol levels) with elegance, perhaps most similar to the reds from 2010 or 1990... it will be a vintage to buy and cellar……..one of the most exciting Southern Rhône vintages of my lifetime." Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate Nov '17
We will be giving a more extensive overview of our thoughts on the 2016s once we have returned from tasting the wines and talking to the vignerons in person, but initial impressions are that the red 2016s from the North, while perhaps a little less even and certainly less powerful than the stellar 2015s, are pure, elegant and highly expressive of terroir. The whites are finer than their 2015 counterparts, with higher acidities and more expressive fruit profiles.
Things are even more exciting in the South, with some producers talking about the vintage of a lifetime and favourable comparisons being made to 2010 and 1990. The wines are said to combine the intensity of fruit of the 2015s with a slightly fresher profile and more backbone making them tremendous candidates for cellaring.
You can make up your own mind on Nov 20th. The tasting is free, as usual, but places are limited so please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org to guarantee entry.
