The glamorous Federica Moricone runs Villa Medoro, a 92 hectare estate within sight of the Adriatic that sold its grapes on until the late 1990s when it started to make wine itself. Pairing indigenous varieties with modern winemaking the wines are very appealing but with some serious complexity too; the Montepulciano was awarded ‘Tre Bicchieri’ in the Gambero Rosso, a real feat for a wine of this pricepoint. The whites are just as interesting: the 100% Trebbiano is as spicy and floral as we have come across with this variety, while the Chimera takes some of this Trebbiano from the finest vines and barrel ages it on its lees – one of the most delightful whites on our whole list.
Crisp and floral with a clean mineral finish. Round and fruit driven with a touch of honey. Think lychee and cooked pears with a touch of cucumber almost. Good minerality on palate with a very subtle touch of sweet spice.
Dark ruby in colour with a defined freshness nose. The palate is full of cherry and cassis flavours with the classic touch of spice that defines a good Montepulciano. Red fruits and undertones of liquorice on the finish.

Trebbiano Falanghina blend. A very floral almost Pinot Gris like wine. Showing fine notes of fresh cut grass and Pear Drops. A hint of lemony acidity to ballance and touch of pink pepper to the finish but still very mineral throughout.
ITR12310S / Red / Italy / £14.00 per bottle
100 % montepulciano. Lovely supple nose with a touch of oak. Great depth of fruit with a minerality that keeps it fresh. Warm structure black fruits with pronounced acidity which will help it age. A noticeable warm structure to the long mineral finish with an almost smoky edge.
