One of the grand old names of the port industry, Noval also make some very impressive table wines too. The fact that Christian Seely (the man behind Bordeaux second growth Pichon Baron) gives more than just a helping hand with the quinta’s eponymous grand vin, means that they produce an extremely polished fine wine that has already induced a devoted cult following. Allocations though are tiny. A good dose of Syrah in the Cedro (around 50%) means that the wine takes the ‘vinho regional’ designation (Portugal’s equivalent of Vin de Pays and IGT), as opposed to the more illustrious Douro, but results in a deliciously berried wine that feels more Mediterranean than Atlantic. These are a mighty impressive pair and a must try. Various vintage Ports are available too; contact your salesman for further details
POR04007S / Red / Portugal / £10.95 per bottle
This delicious Vintage Port spent 20 months in the barrel. Crushed in the very traditional way (by foot) this port has an opaque violet red colour. It is very toned on the nose with rich dark fruits coming through. Lovely red plum/blackberry and blueberry flavours on the palate. It shows good depth ...
Dried apricots and figs wow the nose. There is a lovely nutty character that comes through too. A little heat on the palate brings the flavour to the front and then finishes beautifully on the back. Enjoy!
