Champagne Maillart Brut Platine 1er Cru 2003 (6×75cl) Buy Now £132.40
Young Nicolas sure does know how to produce superb Champagne. He is the 9th generation on the family estate and labels the wine under Nicolas Maillart. He works in the cellar and the vineyard where they do as much as possible by hand. This bubbly is laced with white peaches, its elegance, minerality and mousse will take you by surprise. There is an excellent level of crispness and definition allowing the flavours in this wine to really shine through.
St Aubin La Princée, Hubert Lamy (6×75cl) Buy Now £114.58
St Aubin is not as well-known as its famous neighbours. Hubert's plots are not as prestigious - I think this makes it all the more interesting - and from the taste you can be assured you will be enjoying wines that punch far above there weight and value. The La Princee (Chardonnay) is a fine example, aromas off vanilla and flowers with a touch of citrus. The minerality really comes through on the palate with a hint of chalky character. There is good freshness here and decent length to finish it off.
Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee La Fontaine, Grand Veneur (6×75cl) Buy Now £167.01
We are lucky to get our hand on the limited allocations of Grand Veneur wines. Christophe and Sebastian and taking this Domaine to another level gathering top scores and accolades. The Chateuaneuf du Papa Cuvee La Fontaine expresses rich black berry characters; raspberry, blackberry and cherry comes to mind. There’s a little cassis too. The body has a medium feel with good tannins and structure. With lots of fruit on the palate notes of sour cherry are picked up. These boy's really know what there doing.
Noval 20 Y.O Tawny Quinta do Noval NV (6×75cl) Buy Now £233.54
Like all good Tawny ports the flavour should go on and on, and this one sure does. Sure there a many great Tawny’s out there, one that springs to mind and is very well known would be the Taylors Tawny, many have tasted this but why not try something different. The 20 YO Noval has aromas of dried apricot and fig, there is a lovely nutty character that comes through too. A little heat on the palate brings the flavour to the front and then finishes beautifully on the back. Enjoying a glass after dinner would be the perfect way to finish off the evening - if your a Tawny fan. Enjoy!
