Located in the centre of the Santa Rita Hills appellation, in Santa Barbara County, the Melville’s estate currently consists of 85 acres of vineyards and counting. Chad Melville and his family are purely growers and have a working partnership with Greg Brewer (of Brewer-Clifton fame) who vinifies each of their plots on their behalf. Greg beleives in the quality of fruit Melville produces so much, that he has now taken a stake of the business going forwards. The climate in Santa Barbara is significantly impacted by the proximity to the ocean and its cooling pacific breeze, it is marked by consistent morning and evening fog and steady afternoon winds. The Melville family make pure and impressive wines and though not identikit Burgundies they do share the same terroir-iste philosophy of wines with a direct connection to a plot and parcel in defined vineyard. The next vintages are usually available in mid September, and are offered En Primeur in the summer as there is limited availability of these wines.
