The Viale brothers – until 1991 sold all their grapes on – and indeed half their 20 hectares are devoted to fruit farming. However, part timers they are not, and in the past 19 years they have shot to the top of the Crozes Hermitage tree and are now considered one of the best producers. They own a hectare and a half of straight Hermitage vines but their Crozes surpasses many growers wines from the more illustrious appellation.
100% Syrah. A little wild as young Syrah can be with masses of cassis and herbs on the nose. Big concentrated and full of sweet fruit and spices. Drink 2011 – 2020.
