Château Coutet
“Very marmalade nose with a hint of straw. Herbaceous tones intermingle with sweet pear and apple aromas. On the palate, sugared rhubarb and a touch lemon zest prevail over more fruit driven tones. Fresh and opulent with good persistence and length. This is excellent. A huge Coutet.”
Drink from 2015. Genesis score 18.
“The 2010 Chateau Coutet has 154-gms/litre residual sugar, one of the highest in Sauternes/Barsac. It is endowed with a delightful bouquet of freshly sliced mango, Tropicana and a touch of honey, with good definition and minerality. The palate is medium-bodied with very impressive balance and poise, and is slightly viscous in the mouth, with almond, lemon curd and a touch of orange peel. The finish is composed and long. The 2010 Coutet is very impressive for the vintage, although I suggest not quite reaching the stellar heights of the magnificent 2009.”
93-95 Robert Parker
“Really ripe and fleshy, offering delicious glazed peach, apricot and honey notes, with lots of orange blossom and fig and a very rich finish. Starting to take shape now too. Impressive.” 93-96 James Molesworth
“Smudgy and interesting, already, on the nose. Lots of richness and smoothness. Really. This approaches the idea of a classic vintage with its density and concentration. Long. Very fine. RS 156 g/l, TA 4.2.” 18/20 Jancis Robinson
Château La Tour Blanche
“Fresher on the nose than the Coutet, high tones of meringue, bright orange zest and a touch apricot. The acidity is excellent too, good tension, with a dash of lime freshness. Polar opposite to the Coutet, fabulous length on the finish with sweet fruits that linger.” Drink from 2017. Genesis score 18.
“The Chateau La Tour Blanche has a complex bouquet with scents of grapefruit, honey, apricot and white flowers. The palate is very well-balanced, with a great sense of tension and poise, and notes of citrus lemon, lime, dried honey and a touch of marmalade that lead to a tightly wound, focused, almost Germanic finish. This is intriguing Sauternes that should repay considerable cellaring.” 92-94 Robert Parker
“Still quite unevolved, with green fig, almond cream and apricot notes that need to stretch out. The finish is round and creamy.” 89-92 James Molesworth
“Green and coconut on the nose. Streaky green and massively sweet with the pear juice quality of botrytis. Dense and rich. A bit jagged. Very, very young. RS 130 g/l, TA 3.9 g/l.” 17+/20 Jancis Robinson
Château Suduiraut
“Very rich and bold in style with plenty of sweet pineapple and apricot fruits. Amazing freshness and vibrant acidity given the amount of sugar the wine holds. White peach and lemon meringue flavours on the palate brushed with some lime zest create such a fulfilling feeling. Excellent length with an everlasting finish.”Drink from 2017.
Genesis score 18.+
“The Chateau Suduiraut has a comparatively rich, botrytized bouquet with dried honey, pineapple and a touch of Seville orange marmalade, with exquisite definition and focus. The palate is well-balanced, with a viscous texture and a good level of botrytis, demonstrating fine minerality and tautness. Dried mango, quince and spice all interlace the focused finish, which is long in the mouth. Tasted against its peers, this has a higher level of intensity and focus. A superb follow-up to the sensational 2009.” 94-96 Robert Parker
“Really big and rich, with lots of raw date, glazed pear, creamed peach and fig aromas and flavors. Very lush and long, but also clean and round despite its heft.” 93-96 James Molesworth
“Mid pale gold. Broad and rich and fresh but with very ripe pear-juice notes. There is real weight here. Much less citrus peel than most other 2010 Sauternes. Real race. Dangerously delicious now. Long. Super clean. Medium to heavy weight. Great undertow. Long. Nervy.” 18/20 Jancis Robinson
