Born out of an obsession with Santa Barbara County terroir, Brewer-Clifton was formed in the early 1990s by Greg Brewer and Steve Clifton. As the former notes; “It is our primary goal and priority to deliver the essence of the vineyard as clearly and honestly as possible.” They do this by sourcing parcels, which they vinify and bottle separately, from growers in all four corners of the county. Greg Brewer is not your typical Californian winemaker, he does not deal in over extracted fruit bomb reds, nor does he believe Chardonnay has to be oaked. He simply wishes to create wines that are true to their terroir, an ethos not often found outside of Burgundy. Their range is extensive (including a Pinot from grapes grown by the Melville family) but like an artist’s palette each expresses the different shades and hues of the clone and terroir they are derived from. Their name is held in reverence in the US and we are excited to import their wines in the UK.
