Genesis Wines: Blog

A bevy of Bordeaux 2011 Releases

Well after a reasonably quiet week on the Bordeaux front the last 48 hours have seen release after release after release, with some of them even coming out at sensible prices. There are a few too many to list here, but if you follow the below link you can see our full list of the latest releases and their availability.

Chateau Beychevelle 2011 Release

Chateau Beychevelle have made a pretty good 2011 and have dropped the price by 20% (think it could and should have been more), but this is now a Chateau that has now become something of a by word for “investment” over the last 3-4 years as our friends in the East follow it with great interest.

Beychvelle

Château Beychevelle 4eme Cru St Julien - £525.00 per case (12x75) in bond

“Blackcurrant and berry nose, very fine and polished. Decent weight and bags of fruit, well structured tannins and good balance. A very good Beychevelle overall. Drink from 2018+” Genesis 17+.

Chateau Mauvesin Barton 2011 Release

A couple of interesting releases over the last 24 hours (and several less interesting ones – Du Tertre graciously offered a 7% discount on last year’s price, any takers? No, I thought not!).

Château Mauvesin Barton is the new Medoc project from Anthony Barton, the man behind both Leoville Barton and Langoa Barton in St. Julien.

Mauvesin_Barton

Château Mauvesin Barton, Cru Bourgeois Moulis-en-Medoc - £114.00 per case (12x75) in bond

“46% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cabernet Franc 2% Petit Verdot. The new estate from Anthony Barton. Soft easy nose, red fruits, berries, touch of spice box. The palate is bright and upfront, very ripe and juicy with a bit of a crunch from the tannins, a bit toasty on the finish. Drink from 2015.” – Genesis 16

Chateau d'Arche 2011 Release

This morning sees our first release of the eagerly anticipated 2011vintage Sauternes, after a plethora of releases that have either been uninspiring and/or overpriced it’s a pleasure to offer Château d’Arche. This is not usually a name you will hear me shouting about, but their 2011 is an absolute revelation and had me eulogising for several days after I tasted it (several times and indeed I actually swallowed some – something I rarely do when tasting, the only other wine I did swallow this year was Yquem….)

dArche

Château d’Arche, Grand Cru Classé Sauternes - £205.00 per case (12x75) in bond

“Real pineapple-y rich nose with notes of fresh marmalade. The palate has plenty of weight and is super ripe. A genuine underlying freshness and succulence. Lovely crème Anglais finish, delicious! This is excellent. Drink from 2016” – Genesis 17.5
