Today the wines of the best estate in Sancerre are made by the nineteenth generation of the Mellot family, Alphonse Junior, with his father Alphonse Senior on hand to pass on his vast experience. The whites they make are some of the most complex and intense Sauvignons around owing to the high average age of the vines and varying degrees of oak used in the élevage. As for the reds, these are as close as you can get to fine Burgundy in the Loire and as such need time to reach their full potential.
